Technology is sometimes a curse

We marvel at the wonders of technology in the 21st century. GPS system, wireless internet, dvr, a cell phone that does everything and is occasionally a phone. Lots of tools for rapid fire communication...except...those times when the technology fails. Like NOW for example. Everything was fine until about 9:45 this morning when the host for our domain developed major problems. We had no clue until this afternoon when we realized we hadn't gotten any email today. Grumble, grumble dam**d server! Exchange can be such a pain in the...well, ok. So we checked everything out, got our IT guy involved, and came to the conclusion it wasn't us. Crap...that must mean...yep! All we had to do was call and the message about the problems hit immediately. Grrrrreat...just what we've always wanted. So, emails that went out today got special telephone follow ups. Now, over 12 hours later, the issue is still not resolved and mail we want to go out is just sitting in the queue patiently. OUCH!! So as much as we all love the amazing technology, I sometimes wish we were back in the days when radio was king and landlines were rotary dial phones. Wireless, cordless phones did not exist. TV was just an idea and all these space aged gizmos were in sci-fi novels and comic books.

Don't get me wrong, I love my digital camera, my dvr, my wireless internet. But because we're so used to these things it's criminal when they don't perform as expected. And the longer the repairs take, the more frustrating it is. So while the technology allows us to do incredible things and makes many processes faster and more convenient, when they fail it's as if we've returned to the days of the covered wagon and the pony express. Technology...it's wonderful! And awful...
