No, don't be fooled. This is not Oregon...although there may be areas in the eastern part of the state that have a similar look. This is a photo of the Rio Grande Gorge taken near Taos, NM in November of 2004. While looking at this photo, feel free to add over 50% humidity and imagine that it's 108 degrees outside. You now know what our slice of Oregon was like yesterday. Actually, the humidity is probably higher today...as we have clouds and some quick, light showers. If the sun comes out it will be like living near the Gulf of Mexico in summer. The thought is that the cloud cover will keep us below 100 today, and we'd all be grateful for that! It promises to be a slow cool down, staying in the 90s and upper 80s most of the week. I know, much of the country is hotter for a longer period of time. But this is just not Oregon weather. The heat can come along suddenly, yes...but, uh, not THIS hot!! Last summer we had more 90+ days, but it never hit 100. This is our third 100 degree day so far, and summer is not at the midway point yet. Much of Oregon and Washington housing is sans air conditioning and that makes days like yesterday especially unkind. The coast is still relatively cool, 70s and low 80s and nice at night too. I imagine the roads that lead to the beaches are packed this weekend...were probably packed yesterday...with folks looking for some relief.
Wherever YOU are, here's hoping that the heat is subsiding and that cooling rains are in your future. Yes, it IS all about the weather!

It hit 109 here according to the thermometer that's mounted under the clematis arbor in our back yard - that's 109 IN THE SHADE! I don't think it reached 100 today, but it feels muggy outside, reminiscent of east coast summers.

The temperature in good old San Ramon was about the same 109, but the night never cooled down. The first time I was cooler inside than outside at 4:30. Even the AC kicked in at 4:30. They say a cooling trend comes next week - we look so forward to it. Like the photo, hope we go there some winter.
