Suddenly Summer

101 yesterday; for all the folk who are sure that it's rainy and cool in the Pacific Northwest all the time...NOT TRUE! The heat wave will be short compared to the summer heat of OK and TX, but has to be tolerated, just the same. Plants that did well in most weather conditions look as if they need to be moved to a shady spot; watering helps, but some still look wilted and others seem fried. There is a strong breeze, but it's very warm as well. Already 90 here and it's not even noon. I know, I know. So many parts of the country have it worse! I think it's hard here because it's not often this hot, and many homes or apartments are not air conditioned...even some new construction has no a/c!! It has been cooler at the coast...depending where along the coast you are.

The trek north for Pat and Erin has begun. UHauling, with the car towed behind...and lots of heat in northern CA. I understand it was 114 in Redding yesterday...one of the many places they will pass through. How well the truck handles the heat, and the mountains will be a concern for sure.

Thoughts on a warm Saturday

It's Saturday and it's me, 3 cats, and the dog. Pat is in the Bay Area and summer is arriving very quickly. After the wonderful chill of spring it will be quite a shock to the system! Even with all the animals, there are times when I feel very alone. I guess that explains how much I've been on the phone today. I've lost the sense of being comfortable when there's not another human around. I've filled time with watering lots of plants, chasing the pup, watching a baseball game. I marvel at the sudden heat, hoping it leaves as suddenly as it arrived. The cats may be content to laze about but it's too toasty for me. I've retreated to the cool of the house and the comforts of iced tea. Even as it gets dark, and the breeze is cooler, I'm glad for this refuge and the feel of the cool air. Tomorrow will be worse, but I can run errands early, and avoid the hot afternoon.
