A little over a week ago, we went to Cannon Beach. It rained...all day. We never set foot on the beach and it was just wet, poor Ginger looked like a drowned rat and was carried a lot. She did not like getting wet, or walking through water! This was taken a couple of days ago at Oceanside. You can't tell, but it was really foggy. But, cool and dry and perfect for checking out the waves. She's crouched down as she's hearing waves and seeing them coming and just after this was taken beat a hasty retreat from the waves. Walking and digging in the sand were fine and there were many new objects to check out and plenty of interesting things to smell. She stayed on lease as we were pretty sure that if we let her loose we'd never catch her. When all was said and done, she was tired and so were we. Everyone slept very well that night.
Well, this is not exactly what I expected to be telling. And, no photo of the dog running along the beach, chasing gulls and getting wet. At least the wet part is true. Our day at the beach was very soggy as it rained all day. As we walked around the shops, hoping there would be a break, the dog just got soaked. Everyone thought she was adorable, and she was a good trooper. But the water at the intersections was high and for an Oregon dog she's just not enjoying the water yet.We did try on doggie rain coats...Something I thought I'd never do. But since she has more growing to do, and we were ending our day early, the rain coat is on hold. At not quite 6 months, she hasn't stopped growing yet. So we'll purchase another time.We also looked at various pet-friendly places to stay along the coast. Would love to just vegetate for a few days later this fall. No plans, just books, fire, ocean to stroll...Dog in tow of course. Still waiting for the reaction to the ocean waves as she hears and sees for the first time.
Right...reality programming. What could be more unreal? The Bachelor, Survivor, Fear Factor. YUCK! There is nothing real about these situations and it's appalling that people watch this crap. No, I'm not fond of such...I will admit to Extreme Makeover Home Addition and it's not because I like Ty Pennington. It's nice to see that there is some good and caring left in this country. And, for amusement...Dancing with the Stars. Some of these celebs are good, others aren't and freely admit it, and some are in denial.Reality for me is a chance to escape the worries of my everyday world and see something that makes me laugh. Something with good acting and a real story line. Yes, I know...everyone is different with regards to these things; they are all subjective. So, I offer one that is no longer on the air, and wasn't even produced in this country. "As Time Goes By" appears on PBS, a British comedy starring Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. A couple who met during the Korean War, lost touch, and resurfaced 38 years later...he divorced, she widowed. Maybe it's that interesting British sense of humor...less visual slapstick and more turn of phrase and facial expression. It's a nice reality and I'm glad to have found it. For me, these are real people. The situation is believable and so are they and their supporting players...all wonderful.Good slapstick? Fine comic timing? Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett. Rapid fire words? Thought provoking? All in the Family, Mash. The family as comedy? Mary Tyler Moore. Reality? They created a world that was real, situations that were believable, and proved that life is FUNNY. No laugh track necessary.Ok the best reality show? Fall in Oregon. The beginning of the rainy season, leaves starting to turn, chilly nights and cool breezes. Mother Nature. She does the best reality...
